I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the summer! In just a few short weeks we will be getting back into the routine of waking early, arriving at school, and learning some really great things! We've had a few changes this summer at our school. Mrs. Babson (that's me!) will be team teaching with Mrs. Maxim a group of fourth grade learners. I will be focusing on the math learning, and Mrs. Maxim will be focusing on literacy. We will be grouping and regrouping learners to give them the best possible opportunity to learn new things and to stretch their brains.
Speaking of stretching brains, we plan to spend a great deal of effort on growing the mindset of the fourth grade this year. It is important to understand that mistakes matter and they are OKAY. Yes! Mistakes are ways to learn new things. Nothing new was every invented without a whole lot of mistakes and failures to begin with. It's a good thing Thomas Edison didn't give up while inventing the filament that allowed electric light. Or that Abraham Lincoln wasn't deterred when he lost appointments to national government (six times!). Or that Michael Jordan didn't give up when he was cut from his high school basketball team. Or that J.K. Rowling didn't give up on Harry Potter when her book was rejected from 12 publishing companies.
We want to impress upon our learners that we believe in them, and to help them believe in themselves.
We are looking forward to seeing all of you at our open house August 30 from 3 to 5 pm!
